Course Description:
Prerequisite: Art 1 (511)
Art II (10-12) is an elective course which continues to develop students’awareness of art heritage as it reflects, records, and plays a role in every culture. Activities will cover a wide range of media in an effort to develop individual artistic technique, self-image and appreciation of other expressions of art.

~Sketchbook (Provided for Student)***Mondays are sketchbook days and Fridays the assignments will be graded. Late work will only be accepted one day late for 1/2 credit, unless makeup work is arranged due to an absence.***

Class Rules:
All rules, policies, and procedures are outlined in the Forth Hill High School Handbook and will be applied within the Art
Room. The class rules have been established so that each student has the opportunity to work in an educational environment where learning can take place and tasks can be completed. No individual student or situation will be permitted to interfere with instruction or the learning environment.
Each student will:
1. Be on time and be prepared for class (Bring your sketchbook & a pencil.).
2. Be attentive and follow instructions the first time given.
3. Demonstrate respect for the instructor & classmates.
4. Use materials and equipment appropriately/safely. This includes clean-up. Do not leave messes in the sinks or on the tables. Return materials to their proper places.
5. Leave the room for legitimate reasons only. Only one student may leave the room at a time. Students must sign out, use a pass, and sign back in when they return to class.
6. Turn in all projects and assignments on time.
7. Refrain from the use of Ipods & cell phones in the Art room. They are prohibited from use in this class.
Course Overview:
Students taking Art II will continue to experiment with a variety of media and techniques, as well as deepen their understanding of personal meaning-making through art. They will demonstrate the proper application of skills in creating effective compositions. Students will select works of art and interpret meaning based on the artist’s use of symbolism and style. Activities are provided that allow the expressive use of the Elements & Principles of Design in personal artwork while students are developing their technical skills. Ample opportunities for discussion and reflection are incorporated into assignments with many suggestions for adapting or extending the learning experience.
